No media player will play *every* format of video file!
Windows Media Player version 9 comes with video codecs that play that type of WMV
(Windows Media Video) files, i.e. WMV version 9 files. But it will not, for example,
play WMV version 10 video files.
You cannot play WMV version 10 files using Windows Media Player 9. The files are
deliberately designed to be incompatible with WMP 9, as a marketing ploy to try to
force you to buy WMP 10, a program which cannot be run on Win ME. That, in turn,
is a marketing ploy to try to force you to upgrade to Win XP.
You may be better off playing video files in VLC Player, even though it is not ideal
for use with Windows ME. A good alternative is to install Media Player Classic, which
is 100% compatible with Win ME.
To play a wider range of video files, you can try installing a lot more video codecs,
by installing a Codec Pack (search at www.google.com for "Codec Pack"). But be warned:
installing a codec pack can cause problems that you may not be equipped to solve,
because codecs can conflict, both with each other and with those already installed
in your computer.
