Help, please

For the past rew days I've been having a problem.
1st - My wallpaper, a nice ocean scene, only appears in various shades of gray.
The icons that appear on the screen are larger than normal, forcing a reallignment
of them.
2nd - When on line my screens and text are now too large and must be moved laterally
to view the screen's full content.
I have run my disc defrag, virus scan, Spybot S&D, Ad-a-ware programs and nothing
is picked up.
I can't figure out if I did something inadvertantly, but would like to be able to
find out so I can return to my normal screen size and functions and never do it again.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
