Hi Damien.

If they are greyed out then this normally means the drivers aren't recognised. Right-click 
on My Computer and select Properties and Device Manager. See 
if any icons have yellow exclamation marks by them, especially in the Sound, video 
and game controllers section.

You can either reinstall your sound card drivers or if you don't have them make a 
note of the names shown in Sound, video and game controllers for your sound card 
and do a web search for newer drivers.
