I usually create a shortcut on my desktop by right clicking to bring up the context sensitive menu and then go New >> Shortcut. Type 'explorer' (no quotes) in the shortcut wizard and click Next (twice I believe) to finish it off and it should open explorer on your C:\ or wherever you have your operating system installed (mine opens to D:\) I then toss the shortcut onto my Quick Launch bar for easy access since I use it more frequently than any other software.

Give that a try and let us know it if does/doesn't work.
