I was looking at a friend of the family's computer and his had a problem shutting
down. It went through the whole cycle but never finally turned off until physically
nudged. (!!) We put a 128M stick in(what I was there for in the first place...) and
the problem mysteriously went away. Memory has solved gimpy shutdowns on 98 computers
for me too.
His was a Compaq 700 PIII with 64M factory. My sister's Vaio K6-3 laptop with the
same 64M works just fine.
It's worth keeping in mind. Memory is cheap right now.
