Another thing that might help

I have a remark about Things that slow down system bootup:

There is something else about networking - in some cases you can't just 'pull the plug' of the network driver. Sometimes at bootup, the computer stops making noise and seems to be waiting - this is because it searches the (absent) network for someone to give him an IP adress. He is waiting till timeout, and then continues to boot. (dhcp system, for further research) We will now check, in case you are NOT connected to a lan, wether your ethernet adapter has an assigned ip adress, avoiding to wait for one (that will never come) at bootup. To do so, right click on the Network Neighborhood or My Network Places icon, select properties, then search for an entry like TCP/IP -> Card *** Ethernet (not for dial up connection!) and select properties. From there you should have a tab called IP Adress, and then check wheter there is one or not. BUT! If you are already in a network, you should'nt change it, ask your network administor. If you aren't connected to a lan, then you cn just put in a private adress like 192.168.0.1 - If your lan driver are like the one I encountered on some pc's, you should now spare up to a minute at bootup Hope this helps!
