Question about 'Downloading Windows Updates'

I have a P3 1000 with 256 DDR Ram, 3500 voodoo video card running ME. I tried to
download an update, but it didn't finish installing. I tried to resume and restart
installation, but neither worked.
Since then my system resources seem to used up a lot quicker, and some internet pages
won't load. I get an installation upon demand box followed by a installation failed
please choose windows update under the tools menu later message. This comes up at
quite a lot o pages, and I wouldn't care if I could just go to the windows update
page, but it will not load at all. Hotmail has this too, but it will work after
clicking OK. Lots of other pages won't work at all.
Any help would be apreciated thank you all
