How do I stop Windows Installer from loading?

Whenever I boot Windows,"Windows Installer" appears on my screen and attempts to modify Microsoft Word 2000 SR-1, a program I don't have or want. How do I stop it from loading? This annoyance started after I loaded the Dell Active-Sync program for my Axim PDA.
