Bad Memory-Solutions for unremovable RAM?

I have a question about Dealing with Bad Memory (RAM):

Hi. I suspect that I have bad RAM in my Compaq Presario 12XL400 Notebook. There is a memory expansion slot, so adding to the 64 Mhz should not be difficult, but my question concerns the fact that the websites claim the original RAM is "unremovable." Is there some way to circumvent the bad memory, or am I stuck with the choice between a computer that crashes on a regular basis or buying a new computer? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
