Question about 'Downloading Windows Updates'

I have a question about Downloading
Windows Updates:
I am having trouble downloading update service pack sp1. Every time I try to run
it I get to 93% downloaded and I get an error saying I need to close all other programs.
but as far as I know no other programs are running. How do I shut down programs
I can't see running? Does anyone know how to see whats running in the background
that could be screwing it up? I have internet explorer 5.5 and the update is supposed
to bring it up to IE 6. the outlook express is in but IE is not.
