Question about 'Getting Network Neighborhood to recognize newly attached computers'

I have a question about Win 98 and ME working together. I have a simple 3 tier peer to peer network. Two machines are Win 98 and the other is ME. I have working lights on all machines listed on the switch and have checked and double checked the IP'a and protocols. However the two 98 machines see each other. The ME sees nothing. When I try to ping either of the other 98 machines it times out. I am begining to suspect the network card. When I do try to ping the other machines the switch shows not activity. Just stays constant lit. When I ping from any of the other two machines there is activity along all three lights. I thought about buying a new NIC card (cheap one that is) and checking that. Any other ideas?
