There are several ways to extract clean copies of a file from the system *.CAB
files. One is to use the extract command in a DOS window. But in Windows ME, this
has been added to the MSCONFIG utility also.
Start - Run - MSCONFIG and click OK
In the System Configuration Utility, click the Extract File.. tab.
Specify the system file you would like to restore in the field and click Start.
In the Restore from: field, click the pull down bar and select the correct
location of your system *.CAB files. On a Micro$oft box version it is normally the
Install folder. On an OEM install, it is normally the CAB folder.
In the Save file in: field, enter the full path name of the folder where
you want the extracted copy of the file to be placed (or replaced).
Click OK and it should search the *.CAB files in the Restore from folder and locate
a copy of the file if it is in there somewhere and the place a copy where you told
it to.
