To "Invisiblize" Any Icon including the "my computer" icon do the following:
For Windows ME and 98SE
#1 Create a Invisible Icon
A. To create the invisble icon go to Paint and select file and click new.
B. Take the lower right edge of the picture and reduce the pic as small as you can
get usually a 1x1.
C. The Picture should look mostly black except for a small square in the upper left
hand corner.
D. Save the picture as Invisible.ico
E. The picture default saves in the my documents - my pictures file so keep the path
handy!
#2 Make the Icon invisible
A. Go to Windows Explorer
B. Right click on Desktop
C. select EFFECTS and there you will see the icons.
D. Highlight the My Computer Icon and select change Icon.
E. Write in the path of the Invisible Icon you created or Browse to find it then
OK it.
F. Now the icon is "invisible" then you should "rename" it as well.
#3 Renaming "Invisible" Icon
A. Right click on the icon and select rename.
B. Remove the previous name and hit the space bar once. The one space is the name
but if it won't let you then put a period in.
C. Hit enter and now the icon is totally invisble and can be viewed only by you.
#4 Move the "Invisible" icon to a corner of the screen and you are finished!
#5 You may want to save the scheme as well so go to desktop themes in the control
panel.
A. Select save scheme and name it whatever you want.
B. This is a fail safe so should you ever lose the invisibility then enter in the
saved scheme.
C. My desktop changes all the time so if you use another "theme" then remember step
#2-#4 and remember to save the scheme.
HAVE FUN!
