Question about 'Why can't I get the Direct-Cable Connection to work?'

I am using ME on both the host and guest computers. The guest asks me for the name
of the host computer which I then enter. It tells me that it cannot find host. The
odd thing is that the host computer tells me that it is connected. Any ideas ?
All NEtbuei's etc are entered as far as I know.
and I am not able to share files.

In addition to NetBeui, make sure you have Client for MS Networks,Tcp/Ip,and Ipx/Spx
installed on both systems.

Hi,
I had the same problem. Of course, both computers must have netbui and IPX/SPX added.
Make sure that your cable is good AND connected to the right ports. Last but not
least, enable sharing on your folders. I finally had luck after I enabled both protocols.

To resolve this issue, rename the Vredir.vxd file (if it exists) in the Windows\System
to Vredir.old, and then extract a new copy of the Vredir.vxd file to the Windows\System
folder.
Extract fr. microsoft

I had this problem - checked all settings, took advice from various forums to ensure
i had got it setup ok - still could not find host pc.
I then tried disconnecting from the Internet and turning off the firewalls on both
pc's (zonealarm). It now works a treat!
