Question about 'How do I stop Internet Explorer from loading a

I have a question about How
do I stop Internet Explorer from loading a "home page" when it starts?:
I am running IE5, and I have noticed that a lot of web sites actually set your "start/home"
page to their web site, so that the next time you run IE it automatically goes to
their web site. I find this particularly annoying and very rude of them to do this
without at least asking first. My question is, can IE be set so that no-one can reset
your "start/home' page?

Steve, this is really not a Windows ME question, so you should be taking it elsewhere,
but if you crank up your Internet Security settings you will prevent this sort of
problem. Oh yeah, and make sure your IE version is 5.5 or higher and updated (at
the microsoft website) with the latest security patches. Also, it tends to be only
porn and warez sites that change your homepage without your permission, so you can
either avoid these kinds of sites or do the following: make a note of the ones that
do this and add them to the "Restricted Sites" zone in your Internet Security options.
Another tip: if you want your homepage to load fast, load it up, then choose "Save
As..." from the File menu. Go to the C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER folder,
and type homepage as the filename. Make sure "Web Page, Complete" is selected as
the file type. Click OK, then go to Tools|Internet Options|General and type C:\PROGRAM
FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\homepage.htm as your homepage, and click OK. You will now
typically save 10-30 seconds every time you start IE or press the home page button!

If you put:
about:mozilla
on the address line and make it your default page, Explorer starts with a nice blue
screen.

Thanks for this great tip. This problem was really bugging me.
Copla of comments:
Since you are specifying the full path and filename of the new home page, couldn't
you call it anything you want and store it anywhere you want?
What is IE doing for that 10-30 seconds we are saving here?

that's not that great of a tip if the site is constantly updating because it will
always disply the saved version...

To load it even faster, you can prevent ANY page from loading, although this can
only be done with a shortcut to the program.
Right-click the shortcut and select "Properties".
In the "Target" text field, go to the very end and append the option "-nohome" (without
the quotes).
For example, mine looks like:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome
The only disadvantage to this method is that you have to load a web page before you
can use the Tools->Windows Update or Tools->Internet Options.
Hope this helps.
