Question about 'How do I reset the Windows Media Player video cache?'

Re the article How
do I reset the Windows Media Player video cache?:
I simply create a zero-length file and replace wmplibrary_v_0_12.db with it. Then
I mark it as read-only. No more cache! (But please don't tell Microsoft.)

Hi Marc Smith,
I did what you said and now I can't add any music or video files to the playlist.
Any ideas as to how I rectify this problem?
Thanks

Back to corncobman:
I wanted to carry out your suggestion about the entry into DOS, but my problem is
more complicated. I am trying to clean out all the old Windows Media files in order
to reinstall WMP-9 which is a requirement for this French provider Numericable to
pipe 6 channels of TV to my computer. I got rid of WMP-9 by restoring my system.
But I am still stuck with WMP-7. I tried to enter the string you recommended into
DOS but got stuck trying to enter the back slash (\). My only computer here in Nice
is a French one and in order to do a back slash with this keyboard I have to use
Ctrl+Alt+8. When I do that in DOS, I get ^\ instead of \. What can I do? I can
write the \ ok to you because I am using an American English keyboard superimposed
on the French one, but that won't work in DOS. Any ideas?

Solution:
Hold down ALT, then type 0092 on the numeric keypad.
A list of similar ASCII commands to this can be found here:

the best method inhave yet discovered to rid media player is to go into the add/remove
windows components and un-check the media player box. this will disable any function
of media player, and although it might not remove it, stop it working so as for instance,
no media player links on the net work anymore. no probs for me.

I went into the add/remove program from the start menu, clicked on windows media
player, and just clicked on remove, and removed it. This increased my disk space
on my "c" drive

All you have done is delete all Links and some sample wavs/video.
WMP is and always be M$ Backdoor. When you do a complete clean up, work in th registry,
stop M$ programs like explorer, works detect witch starts if you use wordpad, Word
or Works and does 2 things, 1: tries to put itself back in msconfig/start, 2: send
you personnel Info. [get Winpatrol to stop this]
So to Prove WMP needs to be removed Completely after a clean up [CCleaner, Trackless,
MRU-Blaster, Index.dat Suite, ZeroTrace,CleanMOcache ] Play something with WinAmp
then reboot. When winME/2000/XP is back up run Spybot click "File Sets then Usage
Tracks check Only". To stop Info from leaving you PC do this after every reboot BUT
before allowing the PC Internet access.
For the safest and most secure win OS go to litepc.com
Have Fun Bill
Ps
G-mail and M$ are watching YOU

please tell me how i can uninstall the windows media player (below 9) so i can download
in its place "windows media 9"; essentially to upgrade the player. I tried unsuccessfully
to download "w.m.9" but was advised the earlier version (below 9) was in already
in place. I thought maybe i could uninstall the below 9 player and the re-download
the player? thanks for any help concerning.

Try downloading a program called XPLite, its what I use, removes a whole host of
unwanted programs ( if you choose to ) including option to remove WMP9.
