Question about 'Hide all Icons on the Desktop'

I have a question about Hide
all Icons on the Desktop:
OK, it worked as far as getting rid of the icons. However, my background also changed
back to the default one and I cannot "right click" on my desktop to go to viewing
properties. Is there a way to fix this? Or is there another way to just get rid
of the 3 icons that wont go away?
