A quick way to check this is to hit CTRL-ALT-DEL ONCE and look in the list that comes up. If there are more than, say, 10 items, it's likely this is where your resource problem is coming from. These are programs that run at startup and stay loaded. You can find a list of common startup programs and which are safe to disable here: http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/Uncheck.htm It's also possible you are depleting your system resources by opening and closing a lot of windows, for example Internet Explorer. Each time open a window, a certain amount of system resources is reserved, and very few programs actually release all their resources when they close. There are utilities out there that claim to solve this problem, but I don't think it will ever really go away.
