At startup an error message comes up about file VNIM32.VXD is missing or currupted and startup stops with a black screen and the above message. The computer will go no further. It is possible to boot to DOS screen and access the c: drive, but am unable to restore the above missing or currupted file.

VNIM32.VXD is one or your "virtual device" VxD drivers but I would have to know which one. Use "find file" to find the program to which this belongs and then you will know if it IS missing or corrupt, and re-istall that program or driver. Ian (E)

Windows Me: Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information, Tools, System Configuration Utility, Extract file, enter hpsjvxd.vxd, Start, … same as above... If you don't have the CD, you may find the .cab files on your hard disk drive at: Windows 98/98SE: C:\windows\options\cabs Windows Me: C:\windows\options\install Search for them. They may be somewhere else on the drive. A .cab file is a compressed a collection of files ending with a .cab file name extension, and commonly used by Microsoft to distribute software. There are other ways to extract them...
