I also would like to remove the standby option. (The reason why is irrelevant)
I read that if you remove the Advanced Power Management from the Device Manager,
System Devices that Standby will not show up. However, on our new systems we don't
have APM, we have ACPI. I removed that, and all hell broke loose. It's a good thing
I had a backup image.

Does anyone know how to remove the Standby option from a system with ACPI, without
removing ACPI?

Thanks, in advance, for not asking "why?".

I also need to know how to remove the standby option from the Windows 2000 shutdown menu. If you have figured this one out, let me know. Thanks, Libby

I very much need to know as well. The users on the LAN I admin are not allowed to logoff or standby, only shutdown or restart. I can remove logoff fairly easily, but not standby. Any help is appreciated.

I found that changing the hal to standard PC will resolve this issue, but may cause other issues. You should use the hal that is appropriate for your bios and system hardware. I was hoping there was a registry flag to take care of this. Any more ideas on this as I too need to figure out a way to do this?

I have the fix, finally, two OS's later: for XP this works: Added the following registry key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ACPI\Parameters\ : New Dword value: Attributes Key Value: 0x70 After the key is added and you reboot, Standby is unavailable.

I did that on an one computer and it worked fine. However on my Dell Optiplex GX280 it did not. Do you have any other ideas? I talked to Dell and they said it was a registry hack but they wouldn't tell which one!! Jane

I do not know if this works on a GX280, but I have used it on GX260 and GX270 without
a problem. However, use at your own risk and first back up your registry.

I would like to remove the shutdown feature as well, only having the "Restart" option
left in the Shutdown Menu. Any help would be appreciated.

This is the merge file someone gave me:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ACPI\Parameters]
"AMLIMaxCTObjs"=hex:05,00,00,00
"Attributes"=dword:00000070

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ACPI\Parameters\WakeUp]
"FixedEventMask"=hex:20,01
"FixedEventStatus"=hex:00,80
"GenericEventMask"=hex:02,01,00,00
"GenericEventStatus"=hex:00,01,37,19

Anyone knows how to remove SHUTDOWN option from
Start -> Shutdown -> Log off/SHUTDOWN /Restart..

I want to remove the last Shutdown so users only have option to either reboot or
logoff...

Thanks in advance ...
