Mouse freezes when back from HIBERNATE; managed to get it ok from standby. [Dealing with Windows's
Advanced Power Management (APM)]:
Hi! Sorry for some bad english. This is a fresh install, no drivers added, except
for the ones Windows adds by itself. MoBo is a7v133 asus, onboard raid/udma disabled,
mouse is genius netmouse pro[installed as standard serial mouse]. Modem, soundcard
and RTVcard disabled[yellow marks in device manager]. I've followed MSKB Q252822
instructions and had success to get mouse working ok when back from standby mode,
it doesn't freeze anymore. Well, I would like to make it ok back from Hibernate,
right?
Hope anyone can help. Thanks.

If you use an USB mouse you have to install the via usb patch (http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=298)
Success

Fi hefyd/Me too! - I have Windows XP and our mouse is a Microsoft Intellipoint Trackball
Explorer, with the latest Intellimouse 5.0 software. Main utilities are Norton.
Recently, for more than a month now, if I pop out for a cuppa or to do chores I
return with the computer having been in and out of Hibernating and the mouse frozen,
a 'crash' by any other name... Nothing works except to pull the plug, virtually,
wait, and then flip it on again, eventually going through the process of logging
back in. If anyone has a better alternative than 'off-on', the wait and general
irritation, it would be most welcome and appreciated... I should be able to take
the occassional break without this pesky quirk... diolch/thanks - dani

iv solved my problem and my solution was this: go into the screen when u right click
on my computer where all the hardware and drivers are listed, go to the ones for
usb and tell it to search for better drivers. It worked for me.

We had this issue but someone told us to buy a USB hub with it's own power supply
for the mouse. We have not had an issue with the mouse freezing since we installed
the hub.

I think I have tackled this issue w/o having to update
any drivers, install any third-party software, reconfigure the registry, re-program,
or buy new
hardware (ie hubs or cans of red bull to keep me up).
The Known Issue: Your USB Mouse in Windows becomes inactive or it "stops responding"
after your machine has been idle (ie screensaver, coming back
to your machine after taking a # 1, after hibernation, or otherwise).
The Solution: Right click on My Computer, Properties.., Hardware Tab, Device Manager
button, Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers, Double-click on USB Root Hub or
right click Properties, Power Management tab, Deselect "Allow the computer to turn
of this device to save power".
By default, and i'm not sure why Windows does this,
Microsoft has the USB Root Hub shut itself off when not in use to save power. A
feature that is probably more of a utility to those who use Notebookes (like the
one I have when I discovered this issue). Although a novel idea, it's the very root
of this problem. This is why in order to get the mouse to work again you would have
to unplug it and then plug it back in. This alerts the USB root hub to turn itself
back on again. A weird alert trigger considering that Microsoft should have the
USB Root Hub turn itself back on as soon as you begin to you use the mouse again.
What surprises me even more is that Microsoft hasn't officially addressed the issue
yet. Especially when they know that millions upon millions of their users will use
USB mice.

Although the previous solution stated seemed logical, it didn't prove sucessful.
I think, as I'm still not sure and as stated in a previous post, going to this web
site: http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=298
will take care of the problem.
Let me know if anyone comes up with something else or if this is our only solution
if a solution at all.

Thanks! This worked. However, I did have 4 root hubs to disable. I couldn't easily
tell which hub my USB mouse was attached to so I disabled all 4. Anyway, no more
problem.

Not a solution, but if I refresh my desktop before going in hibernation, mouse always
works when waking up

I should re-phrase this...
Not a solution in the true sense of the word, but if I refresh my desktop before
going in hibernation, ps/2 optical mouse always works when waking up.

I found this in the readme file for the logitech mouse and it would probably help
alot of individuals with this problem.
"3.7 Power Management Problems Under Windows 98 or Windows Me
If your mouse freezes when waking your PC up from suspend, in
Windows 98 or Windows Me, run "Regedit.exe", then open the
registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Logitech\MouseWare\CurrentVersion
\Technical\APMMode
and set APMMode="Off""

I had the same problem: USB mouse doesn't work on laptop after getting back from
sleep. Your solution has worked for me, thank you!
