Question about 'Connect to a Windows 95 system from a Windows 95 system, over a Network'

I have a question about Connect
to a Windows XP or 2000 system with a Windows 95, 98, or Me system over a Network:
I've tried for years to network my two PC's over a network, using a crossover cable.
The PC's are running Windows 95 and Windows Me. I have been able to set them up using
the NetBeui protocol or the IPX/SPX protocol, but cannot set it up using TCP/IP protocol.
I need to use TCP/IP as Norton Internet Security disables the network completely.
I would like to set my two PC's up as above, so I can share my printer and my internet
connection. Any help would be most grateful.

Hi - I've also been having loads of problems setting up my network - just 2pcs -
2 network cards, and a crossover cable - it's that easy. Well that's what they said
at the shop :)
I've been looking about the net for ages, and finally decided to see if anyone out
there could help me.
I went to http://www.virtualdr.com/ and posted a message in the networking forum
a few days ago - and so far I've had loads of responses and help from people. I'm
sure there will be loads of people to help you there.
Good luck :)

First disable Norton Internet Security. Remove all traces of NetBeui and IPX. Now
on one computer put the IP Address as 192.168.0.1 and Subnet as 255.255.255.0. On
the second computer set
IP Addrss: 192.168.0.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.0.1
DNS: Host:Host
DNS Server: 192.168.0.1
People will tell you you don't need to do that, but trust me, it's the only way that
works 100%. Now in Norton. go to Options -> Advanced Options. Create a rule for your
network for IP Addresses 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.3
move it to the top of the list and you are set. good luck!
