Question about 'Setting up Dial-Up Networking'

I have Win me and am running ie6 or ie5.5. I cannot get the dial up networker to
remember the password or dial automatically. Neither tick box will allow a tick.
Does anyone know what application is linked to the autodial?

It's been awhile since I handled this problem for AT&T WorldNet support. My memory
may be a little rusty on this and that was back in the Windows 95 days, so consider
this pointing you in some directions to look, rather than a definitive answer. I’m
not sure how the AT&T software is setup these days, but if they are your ISP, I’d
say contact them, or look at their support site, because this was a common issue
for them a few years ago.
One possible cause is that somehow your computer is setup to ask for a logon when
you boot up. In the past you may have had a window come up asking for a password
when you booted up and you may have clicked through it. In that case, you may not
get the logon box any more, but Windows may not allow you to save passwords. Look
in your control panel and look for “profiles” or “passwords” or something like that
and see if there is a way to disable the logon. Look around the annoyances site for
issues pertaining to Windows logons.
One other thing to know is that when you finally get the check box active again.
Dialup Networking won’t remember the phone number and password unless you actually
connect with them, also it won’t remember the phone number if you just put it in
the window in the front. Fou have to go inside the “properties” I think it is, or
configure, or something like that (I don’t have DUN on this computer so I don’t have
the window in front of me). Anyway, go inside the DUN window and you’ll find a place
to put the number to dial. I hope this helps.

Go to the troubleshooting section of this web site and scroll down to the third from
last question, "Windows won't save my password when I try to connect to the Internet"
click on that and on the first discussion forum and you'll find plenty of troubleshooting
tips, most having to do with the windows logon.
