I need someone to explain how defrag.
Im using Windows ME And as always , right about when it gets to 50% it starts al
over again. it keeps doing this over and over and over. About a year ago someone
here showed me how to defrag by shutting down certain items on my pc, If memory sercves
me right, you told me to shut down eveything but the task bar and system tray and
i cant remember what the third one was. It worked too! the problem is i cant remember
what NOT to shut down before going to defrag, please help, thanks again,
Frank Villa

Just look back through this discussion group, just about everyday someone posts this
same problem. Generally, you want run defrag while the computer is in the "safe"
mode. Here's the MS Knowledge Base article on the problem.

Really, you should just start your computer up in safe mode. Do this by shutting
down your computer and right when you see the first image onscreen (before your "starting
windows" screen) start tapping the F8 key. If you want to do it the other way, the
other thing you wouldn't shut down would be explorer.

Actually, all you need to do is get a little program called power defrag. I run ME
and Power Defrag works great for me.

Try running it in safe mode. I'm sure this will solve your problem.
