I don't know if this will help or not, but just as a suggestion: Check your registry,
navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE:Software:Microsoft:Windows:CurrentVersion:Run and
see if there is an entry in there that says NvCplDaemon. If not, maybe try adding
it? The value data on mine says RUNDLL32.EXE NvQTwk,NvCplDaemon initialize. I don't
know if this will work, but it can't hurt. Just be sure to save your registry before
making any changes.

Hey Rolf,
If you haven't fixed that NvCPLDaemon problem (and my god I hope you have, 'cause
I just noticed it's dated Oct of '02 and it's now Jan of '03), I think I can help.
That has to do with your Nvidia video card. I don't know if you said which version
of Windows you are running. I can tell you how to do it on XP (and I know this will
work with WinME and maybe Win98.).
1: Go to "START" menu
2: Look for "RUN"
3: type in "msconfig" (without the " ")
4: click on the "START" tab
5: look for one of the checked boxes containing the
NvCPLDaemon in it.
6: UN-check that box
7: click apply and say "yes I want to RESTART my
computer now".
After your PC restarts it will tell you some horseshit about how you have chosen
selective startup or some other geek phrase. Make sure you CHECK the box telling
the PC to "shut it's PIE HOLE" and NOT display this warning every time it starts
up. You can also check for any other annoying programs that start up with your PC.
Uncheck the ones that you don't want starting up every time your PC starts. Do one
at a time if you don't know what you are doing, because if the computer acts weird
after UN-checking a box and rebooting just go back into MSCONFIG and RE-check it.
Do this with all the programs that you recognize and KNOW you don't need and it will
help speed up start time.
This whole thing is temporary, maybe. If you don't have any other problems then
you're probably golden. It would be a good idea though, to go and get the lastest
drivers for your video card. If you have the lastest drivers already it wouldn't
hurt to reinstall those drivers.
I hope this helps you or somebody else. If anybody feels this was incorrect please
post a correction. I won't be offended. I enjoy learning from my mistakes.
Peace & Love

I would recommend to you that you install the newest version of NVidia's graphics
card drivers. I am assuming that you currently have an NVidia-based card, such as
a GeForce of any number from any company. Visit this page: http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=winxp-2k_44.03 And click "Primary
Download Site" to download. You will be presented with a license agreement which
you can read if you want to. At the bottom, if you accept the agreement, the download
will start. In Internet Explorer, you want to "Open" the file, as opposed to "Save"
or "Cancel" when a window comes up. An installation program will run, which will
install the NVidia drivers, and restore your missing registry keys. At some point
during the installation process, you may be presented with a warning about installing
unsigned drivers, and asked if you want to "STOP Installation" or "Continue Anyway"
or something to that effect. Do NOT stop the installation! All that this means is
that NVidia is tired of jumping through Microsoft's hoops and sending copies of all
their drivers to Microsoft first for "validation" which just delays releasing the
driver. There are no problems with these drivers, and they are safe to install. Hope
that works for you!

Got a feeling this is related to Quick Time on WinXP at least, I'm gonna try the
Nvidia Drivers and if that don't work I'll try uninstalling Quick Time 6. BTW the
msconfig file is probably trying to initialise the start up of Quick Time so it can
sit in your system tray as soon as you boot up.
Thanks for the tips at any rate.

This is NOT an issue with QuickTime. It is, as previously stated, an issue with
Nvidia chipsets. If you do not wish to download the latest driver to fix this, or
if you are on Windows 2000 and do not have msconfig, you can d/l a simple program
called startstop. Do a Google search for startstop, and d/l the file. After you
install it, look for the line that has the NvQTwk, and just tell startstop to NEVER
load it at startup. The file is NOT a "QT" quicktime file. It stands for Nvidia
Quality Tweak. It IS a file for your desktop Nvidia tweaking application.

this is prolly a really old thread but i just wanted to let you know if you are running
windows 2k then you don't have msconfig. you can copy the .exe file from a windows
xo machine and that will work fine, or you can do what msconfig does just without
the pretty colors. go to start, then run, then type in regedit, then navigate to
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\curent version\run". from there you
can manually delete the entries. since this isn't xp you will prolly want to right
click the keys (icons in the pane on the right) and go to modify. then copy both
lines of information into a text file, that way you can rebuild the key if deleted
the wrong one.

I just wanted to shed a little light on the msconfig application. It is never a
good idea to disable things at startup through msconfig. The 'selective startup'
mode that goes into effect can cause several 'selective' issues and many unstable
can happen quite often. I speak from experience as I am a IT administrator and I
have seen it time and time again. Just go into the registry using regedit and FIRST
extract the part of the registry you are going to delete(so that you have a backup
in case you mess up) and then delete it from the path that was stated in a previous
post. Just wanted to help. Good luck.

First of all great site found no end of tips on here. My PC was locking up on boot-up
it would boot to desktop then lock solid no Ctr Alt Del no mouse no errors just locked.
I am running 98SE with a MSI 128 GF4 ti4200. I didn't know what to do as sometimes
it was OK and other times it would lock and sometimes the screen would go and I would
be left with a black screen with a green line across the top.
Anyway I unticked the NvQTwk in msconfig and so far its been fine.
Anyone know what it does anyway ?.
Really hope this has sorted my lockups as itys driving me mad.

I've been having a problem with WIN XP not being able to load NVQTWK. The problem
seems to stem from multiple driver files improperly linked in the registry as you
upgrade your driver sets. I stumbled on an excellent free "Driver Cleaner" program
that gets rid of all the driver files for ATI, nVidea, etc., cleans the registry,
and leaves your system using the generic VGA on reboot. Loading the latest drivers
"clean" solved the problem. Check out:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3214
for the program. Worked great. Best regards....

I had the same problem "error with NvQTwk" after downloading the last patch of Microsoft
for XP, which has probably changed something in my nvidia registry. I have done as
you indicated. I have also chosen to install all the drivers proposed even if the
installation program said that the drivers already installed were newer. The problem
has disappeared.
Thank you very much.
