Loading too many fonts is the big slowdown and having too many programs loading at
start-up, shown in msconfig. Iain.

Take a look at "Replace the Ugly Startup and Shutdown Screens" in the Customizing article of this site.

How do you limit the number of fonts that load? Thanks

Delete ALL those you never use and those you rarely, if ever, use, keep in a separate
folder. Iain.

I have Win98se. after entering, Start/setting, control panel & Fonts Icon, is the "Replace the Ugly Startup and Shutdown Screens", in a drop down menu? Also is there a list of common fonts. There seems to be a lot loaded that are never used. thanks

Hi, a couple of questions: 1) if I delete (or move) some of my fonts, will it change how some things on my computer look? (Like my home page or some games?) Do I have to try to figure out what the font is on the things I use all the time?; 2) How do I know what things I can stop from loading when my computer starts up? When I hit ctrl-alt-del, a LOT of things show up, and I'm sure I don't need some of them (but I don't know which ones). Thanks!
