Try the following:
Go into your systems CMOS Setup and see if there is a setting for USB-PS/2 mouse.
Make sure the USB mouse setting is enabled. Windows on startup collects information
set by BIOS. One of these relates to the PS/2 mouse. If BIOS thinks there is a PS/2
mouse, Window may not be searching for a USB mouse.
While in the CMOS setup, go to the PnP/PCI Configuration section and "Enable"
the "Reset Configuration Data" and then exit and reboot the system.
When you unplug and replug the mouse, the Plug and Play detects it as a change
and enables it.
You could also go into Device Manager, and select the mouse and "Remove" it.
Then reboot the system and let Plug and Play find it again. Or you my just have to
re-install the USB mouse.
