Recycle Bin not working properly

Hi. I have just deleted all temp files and temp internet files, as well as many
thousands of files in the folders under temp internet files. Some flagged that they
were system files and would not be deleted. I left them alone. I then ran Ad-Aware
to see if I had any spyware on my system, then did a scandisk and defrag, which went
smoothly. Now, my recycle bin does not work properly, it takes forever to open,
and I now cannot delete any files to it. Hopefully someone can help. I have thought
of System Restore, and since I have the original CD for WinME I would be able to
replace any damaged or missing system files, if necessary. I am not great at editing
the registry, but I have done so a few times, being very careful not to play with
something I do not recognize. I have not been in the registry for some time, so
I don't see where that would be the problem in this case.

Try right-clicking your bin and setting the disk space down to zero also put a check-mark
in the box to by-pass the bin. Then re-boot your system, remove the check-mark and
re-set the space. Please let me know if it works! Iain.

Thanks, I will not be at my computer until next weekend, but I also noticed that
my Control Panel icon is not working properly, either. When I get back I will try
this method and reply my success or otherwise. Thanks again. Jim Callaghan

Thank you Jim, With your control panel Icon not working properly you may héve a virus
OR, more simply, a corrupted ShellIconCache file.
You will need to unhide hidden files and folders and then use find-file to look for
ShellIconCache, delete it and re-boot your system allowing Windows to build you a
new ShellIconCache.
Just in case:
Free on-line Anti-Virus check: HouseCall Anti Virus & Panda On-Line
And another from Symantec: Norton-Symantec
On-line security check from: Symantec Security Check
Configure your connection to protect your bios, etc.

Thanks for your suggestions, but when I finally got back to my computer, everything
is working. Don't ask !! I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right ?
It may well be that simply shutting it down and starting it up at a later time fixed
it, so I think a reboot would have been the answer to this problem, I've seen that
before, but didn't think to do it this time.
Thanks for your input. I do like the info about changing the settings on the RB,
as I ran into a problem with a file called Index.dat, and doing what you suggested
worked. Thanks again. Jim

OK, and thanks for letting me know Jim. Sometimes when the bin stops working a re-boot
will free it up.
