How do I stop Windows Installer from loading?

Whenever I boot Windows,"Windows Installer" appears on
my screen and attempts to modify Microsoft Word 2000 SR-1, a program I don't have
or want. How do I stop it from loading? This annoyance started after I loaded the
Dell Active-Sync program for my Axim PDA.

Try this link and download microsofts installer clean up utility (msicuu)
http://download.microsoft.com/download/office2000pro/util20/1/NT4/EN-US/msicuu.exe
Ive got a similar problem and I am just about to try it myself.

I had the same problem, everytime I open any application and even when I click anything
in an application I'd get the window isntaller pop-up. I downloaded a clean windown
installer and just reinstalled it and the problem was taken care of.

Good Luck!

Indeed the msicuu solved the problem for me . . . thanks! Upon executing the utility
I got a list of applications that had originally installed via Microsoft Installer.
I recognised among them one that I recall did not properly install earlier. So
I chose that one to remove, and it fixed the problem.

Clean up utility worked for me... "Preparing to install" popped up every time I
opened Outlook 2003. Problem solved.

I can't download the Cleanup utility because an installation (that I don't want and
can't stop) is in process. I keep hitting cancel, but it keeps coming back. I can't
install/uninstall anything while the unwanted .msi program is trying to load. HELP!!

Run services.msc find the windows installer service and stop that then install the
windows cleanup if that doesn't work open start the windows installer service again
and then end the msiexec.exe process then install the cleanup utility.

I'm trying to use this program, but whenever I install it and hit "run" a Windows
Script Host error comes up with the following information:
Script: C:/DOCUME...
Line: 2
Char: 1
Error: ActiveX component can't create object: 'WScript.Shell'
Code: 800A01AD
Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error
How can i fix this?

Whenever I boot computer, windows installer runs for several minutes & then finally
ends. In the meantime I cannot run my programs until the windows installer finishes.
I cannot tell what it tries to install since there is no information provided.
I am not sure but it seems to try to connect to Internet. How do I stop this?

Windows Installer trying to Load - This is a problem for many people. I am running
Windows XP and installed Office 2007 when I started to get Windows Installer problems.
I tried everything that is listed on the internet. Reloading/Windows Installers/Cleaners/Updates
and fixes of every type. Nothing solved the problem.
I then searched my computer for Windows Installer and found it sitting in software
that I had downloaded into my download file. The software had been sitting there
for some time and only interferred when I updated to Windows 2007.
I deleted the installer file and have not had a problem since. I hope that this
may assist some people.

It is driving me crazy and I have tried to use the MS clean up utility but I still
get the annoying messages. Can you tell me what file name you searched for? I didn't
find anything.

Any reply Vance might give you is unlikely to help you, because he is running Windows
XP, and has posted in the WRONG forum. A solution which works for Windows XP is not
likely to work for Windows ME.
By going to START > RUN and typing MSCONFIG then clicking OK you can run the System
Configuration Utility. Its STARTUP tab allows you to switch off some (though not
all) of the functions which run at startup.
There are many locations in the Windows registry which run programs at Startup. If
MSCONFIG doesn't solve your problem, you might try buying the (inexpensive) program
System Mechanic from http://www.iolo.com
which provides an easy to use interface that lets you switch off functions which
load from the Windows registry at startup - without you having to edit the registry
manually.

I am using Windows XP also but there doesn't appear to be any closely called Windows
Installer. Can someone advise me what program name I should be looking for?
Thanks
