Comment about 'Why are some entries missing from the Start Menu?'

I didn't read all of the discussion so far, so someone may have mentioned this already,
but I thought I'd bring it up for anyone who cares to read it.
Yes, this is one of the worst "features" that Microsoft has inflicted upon us, because
it's an inconsistency in the user interface (my issue with it is that it's hiding
things from me on my own computer). But it's worse than previously noted. The inconsistency
carries further than the start menu. I saw someone saying IE does the same thing.
I've found that Office does as well. You can turn them off just as you can with
the start menu, but you have to do so individually, and it's not as easy to figure
out as the start menu was. You pretty much have to dig through the many options
and preferences dialog boxes, which are accessed through the many menu items (because
we can't just have ONE options box accessible through ONE menu item).
I think that some people my find these "features" useful, but does anyone agree that
Microsoft could theoretically release with these "features" turned OFF by default?
(has anyone noticed that every annoyance "feature" is release ON by default?)
