I had the same/similar problem with a computer on which I had just started a reinstall.
I discovered that a:\ was on the autoexec.bat file Path command. Removing it
has solved the problem, at least so far.
You can open the autoexec.bat file on your boot drive and edit in notepad or a similar
text editing program.
Change the Path command in a similar way:
SET PATH=c:\windows;c:\windows\COMMAND;a:
to:
SET PATH=c:\windows;c:\windows\COMMAND
and SAVE the file as: autoexec.bat
If you are not experienced editing this file, you may want to make a backup copy
of this file before making any changes.
