Smooth Running Windows ME

ME is SO easy to keep stable! The problem is that hackers are targetting Windows.
NTFS is more secure, from all points of view.

The real problem with ME over '9x is System Restore, PCHealth, Find-Fast indexing
(which was also a problem in 9x), Active desktop, MS Defrag rearranging programs
with the APPLOG file, Windows "managed" swap-file [hanging] and index.dat bloat files.

Turn these ALL off and delete the APPLOG & C:\_RESTORE folders, use Delindex.bat
and Diskeeper Lite or, better still, Norton's SpeedDisk, neither of which use the
APPLOG files, put a fixed swap-file, and My Documents, on a second drive, and you
WILL have a fast computer, especially if you have 512Mb RAM.

Turn off *Statemgr, PCHealth, SSDPSRV, Power profiles x2, and Taskmonitor in MSCONFIG
and REMOVE these entries wih RegVac.

Many people, me too, simply cannot afford to "up-grade" to XP and loose both hardware
and software, upgrade the BIOS, add more RAM and buy new software as well.

Especially ... the "Average Joe" and the Housewife, student, etc.

With IE6 SP1, DirectX9.0a, WMP9, EZCDC 6.0 and the right MSHTML.DLL in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
, plus a FULL Drive Image copy of the fresh install as backup for only $69.95 , what
can go wrong? Lightning strike.

If you remove ALL file exclusions listed in your Anti-Virus program, Options panel,
before scanning. and ...

In Internet Explorer, Tools, IE Options, Advanced, Uncheck:

"Activate install on demand" [Other] , and, "Activate install on demand" [Internet
Explorer]

And then apply these three MS KB Article recommendations to your system:

HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT WINDOWS INTERNAL STACK OVERFLOW ERROR MESSAGES Q145799

ERROR MESSAGE: THERE ARE NO SPARE STACK PAGES Q149083

STOP FIND-FAST

And ... particularly ... put the AlwaysUnloadDLL entry (to help deal with "memory
leaks"), into the registry, as with '98se. AlwaysUnloadDll
9x/ME

...there is little else to do, except keep spybots, Trojans and bloat-files off
the system and maintain it virus free.

ME is user friendly, if you treat it well, and so are WE!;-)

All you have to do is to "turn ME over" and you have a modern OS which WILL work
on older machines with a reasonable processor and sufficient RAM.

Download the IE6.0 SP 1 Installer from the MAIN WINDOWS DOWNLOAD site MS DOWNLOADS

Or the full program as mentioned in the link below. [Current version: 6.0.2800.1106
FR]

Then use IEradicator to remove IE completely from your system and re-install after
running scandisk & and defrag.

Then fully update your system at the Windows Up-Date site for ALL system-critical
and security up-dates: Windows Update

SEE: INSTALLING IE6.0 SP1  RESPONSE  MSHTML.DLL

WINDOWS UPDATE TROUBLESHOOTER

You may have to re-install the Windows Installer here

re: Windows Emergency ... BOOT ... Diskette [EBD]

If you ... read ... through the links, you will find that every aspect is covered.

You can make a bootdiskette or EBD on any other Windows ME Computer, but you must
NOT ever use A:\>sys C: or you will put the OTHER computer's system files onto YOUR
computer.

There are also instructions for converting a bootdiskette made ON another computer
to your OWN computer's system, putting your OWN computers system files onto the diskette.

To USE a bootdiskette you should either:

1./ Put the BOOTdiskette into the A: drive BEFORE starting, or:

2./ Put the BOOTdiskette into the A: drive whilst running and press Ctrl+Alt+Del
twice [Or choose to "shutdown" and restart] so that:

The computer ... BOOTS ... ON ... the BOOTdiskette! [EBD]

EBD = Emergency ... BOOT ... Diskette.

ADD-REMOVE PROGRAMS, STARTUP-DISK [EBD]

[EBD] STARTUP-DISK
