Low Resources after computer is not in use.. VIRUS?

My winME box has a problem with low resources. When I first boot up I am fine and
have almost infinite resources. If I leave my computer alone, when I return (4+ hours
or days later) it is impossible to launch any applications because there are no
resources. And I am forced to reboot... Help?
