Hi everyone... I was checkin' on google and found this forum. As many posted my computer won't start up, says the file IFSHLP.SYS is either missing or corrupted... I can't start on safe mode or step by step. cause no matter what I press it will end with system halted in that blue screen. Another problem is that I don't have the windows cd-rom or a floppy drive. is there anyway I can just get access to the computer so that i can get online just once to fix it or do I need to buy windows me? or take it to a programmer? any sugestions...? I tried most of the links people gave to other people w.my problems, but again, I don't have any start-up disks. help! :( Any good hackers? :)

Hum.. no floppy drive. Bad idea. No access to boot diskettes. You should consider solving that problem.

As you have a CD-rom drive, I assume you can make it bootable through BIOS CMOS Setup. Either find or have someone make you a bootable CD. On a working Windows ME system, use Add/Remove Programs, Startup Disk tab to make a bootable Startup diskette. Then use this diskette to make a bootable CD on a system with a CD-RW and software that can make a CD bootable.

Then use this (or any other bootable CD that can get you to a DOS prompt) and then at the A:\ prompt enter:

C:\Windows\Options\Install\SETUP
or
C:\Windows\Options\CABS\SETUP
This will start the Windows ME setup program. You will need your systems "ProductKey". It can be found on the system in the Registry file, C:\Windows\SYSTEM.DAT and is the 25 character code after the keyword "ProductKey".

Or you can just use the boot CD-rom to give you DOS command prompt access to your drive to try the other suggestions.
