re-instal ME from Product Recovery Disk

My WinME has become very unstable and requires constant re-starts
ad infinitum.
I would like to Save my BOOKMARKS, ADDRESS BOOK AND DESKTOP to a floppy.
I am not very knowledgable of computers at present and would appreciate if
someone could tell me if this is possible and how would I do it.
Thanx to all.

You may not lose anything but to be sure here's how to do it:
For your favorites: From within Internet Explorer, from the drop down menu, choose
file, then import/export, follow the directions, save them to a floppy.
For your address book, from within Outlook Express, choose file from the drop
down menu, then export, save it to a floppy.
I don't know what you mean by 'save your desktop'.

Hi Harken,
To backup your bookmarks, go to Start > Find > type Favorites and click Search.
Right click the file and choose Send To > 3½ Floppy Drive.
To backup your address book, Start > Find > type *.WAB and click Search. (There
will only be one file with ".wab" extension).
Likewise, right click the file and choose Send To > 3½ Floppy Drive.
To import it into Outlook Express, go to File > Import and choose the location you
saved it too.
As for your desktop, I don't think it's possible to back it up. I stand to correction
on that, but I've just tried to save a copy of my own desktop, but can find no way
of doing it.

Many thanx for your input. I dont use Internet Explorer but rather something called
NETSCAPE
but I guess the same procedure will work--I'll muddle thru it somehow.
I guess the term DESKTOP WAS CONFUSING ---I have numerous SHORTCUTS on my desktop
that I would like to
keep== I'll find a way.
Thanks again.

Many thanx for your input. I dont use Internet Explorer but something called
NETSCAPE but I imagine procedure will be similar so I will muddle thru it.
My terminology re Desktop was incorrect ---I have numerous shortcut icons ON MY
on my desktop and hope to save them also--I'll find a way.
Thanks again.

Hi Harken,
"Shortcuts" are just links to the executable. There's no point in saving those because
when you format your hard drive prior to reinstalling Windows, it will erase all
the data.
It's very easy to create shortcuts though. You can try this before you format
/ reinstall so that you know how to do it.
I'm going to use "Sound Recorder" in this example which is located via Start > Programs
> Accessories > Entertainment > Sound Recorder. Instead of clicking "Sound Recorder"
to launch it, simply move the mouse to it to highlight it, then click and drag it
out of the menu with the right mouse button and choose a blank part of the
desktop to let go in. You'll get a menu. choose "Create Shortcut Here".
Some programs don't install though and you merely click the .exe file to launch
it. With those, right click the .exe file and choose "Create Shortcut" from the menu.
If you've got Windows Explorer open full screen, double click the title bar at the
very top and it'll reduce in size so that you can see the desktop in the background.
Drag and drop the shortcut you created to the desktop.
Hope this helps.
