I have a HP Pavilion 7845 computer that is 2 1/2 years old. It is a PIII 866 Mhz processor. I am running windows ME. It came with 128 MB RAM and is expandible to 512 MB (2) 256 MB Chips. Last year I purchased a Centon 256 MB PC 100 SDRAM (144500 HIQAV4VUB). I have had no problems running it with the 128 MB RAM that came with my computer. Recently I purchased another centon 256 MB RAM (166134) with the intention of upgrading my RAM to 512. I replaced my 128 MB RAM with it and my computer would not boot up. I keep getting the following error message telling me that the following file is corrupted or missing C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM|Vmm32.VXD. If I use either Centon 256 MB chip in conjunction with the 128 RAM the computer boots and works fine. I only have problems when I try to use the (2) 256 RAM together. Can you please tell me what the problem is.

Hi Jason,

Go to Start > Run, type: msconfig and click OK.
Click the "Advanced" button and where it says "Limit memory to" change it to 512MB. If you have another slot available, you could add the other 128MB as well. In that case, change the figure to 640MB. Click OK, Apply/OK and reboot.

It might be wise to check in the BIOS too just to make sure it isn't set to 384MB in there.
