Kernell32 & possible virus

When I run my ScanDisk, something closes it down then ScanDisk restarts again and
this happens at least 10 times. I do not have anything else running at the same
time. I am also getting Kernell32 errors when opening some applications.
Could anyone suggest a solution to my problem. My operating system is Windows Me.

Hi Jeannette,
Perform a clean boot by going to Start > Run > type msconfig > click OK.
Checkmark the option "Selective Startup" and remove all the checkmarks from the five
fields listed below such as "Process System.ini" for example. Click OK and reboot.
Your screen will only be running in 16 colors, but you should now be able to run
Scandisk.
Once it's finished, go back to "msconfig" and checkmark the option "Normal startup".
As regards the kernel32 errors, Windows saves the details to a file called "Faultlog.txt"
which you can access by going to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools >
System Information. Click the word "Tools" and choose "Faultlog.txt" from the menu.
Copy & paste the details into your next post please.

You say that there are no open programs running. So I would suggest that you disable
your A/Virus prog as this has been known to cause Defrag to stop as well as scandisk.
When you reboot, you can enable it again if it does not do so manually.

You most likely have lots of programs running that you are not aware of. There
are over a hundred Windows ME programs running that get loaded when you boot the
system. Just run the System Tools - System Information program and go to the "Software
Environment" and "Loaded Modules" to get an idea what is loaded. The "Running Tasks"
will show the active programs running. And virus and spyware like to hid from you.
So have you ran
AD-Aware_v6 and/or SpyBot_S&D to check for Spyware_AD-ware?

Here's some recent bits from the faultlog list.

Jack
I seem to have alot of "Loaded Modules" and 34 programs are listed under “Running
Tasks”. Is this normal?
I haven't as yet ran AD-Aware v6 or SpyBot S&D but I will later on today.
