Costs more.
Requires faster processor.
Requires more memory.
Requires larger disk drive.
Requires newer adapters.
Requires new more expensive applications.
Cost more to have someone fix problems when it does not work.

Those are all advantages a salesman loves.

I am sure someone else knows of other advantages.

DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT Windows XP!!! It is really a very slow and unstable OS. The previous post was all correct. ME takes 500 MB when XP takes up 1500!!

On a lot of software, you need DOUBLE the ram you would regularly need to run it if you have windows XP. XP doesn't work with a lot of old programs and hardware. Dont get sucked in!

The main thing and the thing i love the most about it is the STABILITY. Yes, It has some issues with older hardware and some software. The campatibility mode that is built in will usually fix the software Issue (not al the time though). They recommend 128mb of ram minimum but you really should have at least 256. Some hate it, I happen to love it just based on the fact that I DO NOT have the crashes and other annoyances I had with 98 and ME. So what it comes down to is if you have an older PC, stick with ME. But otherwise, try XP you just might like it.

It is splendid. It's what Windows should have been all along. It's immensely more stable than previous versions. (I've been using it over a year, and it's crashed ONCE.) It boots much faster, runs apps faster. It's much more secure, adding the security features of Windows NT. It lets multiple users log in with their own passwords, private folders, desktops, and so on. And it's more beautiful! I have nothing bad to say about XP at all---and if you do, you probably haven't used it, or used it very long.

Windows XP offers more user-friendly support, and if you have enough memory it works fine. It's one of the more stable OS. And if you wnat to use a program that's only compatible with 9.x, you can right click the .exe file, then click on the tab compatibility. then you will see a button that's empty. (I'm dutch and don't know how to translate that button in english, sorry). After you have done that, you should be able to select which operating system it should be working in compatibility. That's possible because XP is a hybrid 9.x/NT OS. And it never crashed on me before! I let Windows 2000 crash in 1 week!
