I have a question about How do I stop a program from running whenever I start Windows?:

For some strange reason, recently, whenever I start up my computer, it looks for iexplore.exe as soon as windows starts (before any of the other startup programs or taskbar programs). It gives me an error saying that the program is incompatible with this version of windows. My win.ini file has the following line under "load=": RUN=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IEXPLORE.EXE. I tried to delete the line, but when I restart, the same problem occurs and the above line again apears in the win.ini file. Any thoughts?

James , Ever what it is it is looking in the wrong place for iexplore.exe. Go to start>run>type msconfig>ok>startup tab>look down the list of programs and see if it is listed, if it is remove the check in the box beside it>apply>ok. Restart the computer, you will get a box telling you that you are using selective startup. Check the little box (do not show this again)>ok.

Have you checked for viruses or spyware? If not. First disable system restore. Go to control panel>system>performance>file system>troublshooting>check the box beside disable system restore>apply>ok.Be sure to uncheck the box when things return to normal.

Then go control panel>internet options:
clear history>yes
delete files>ok
delete cookies>ok
settings>view files,if there>edit>select all>file>delete.

Try these spyware removers Ad-aware 6.0 and Spybot update them>run them.

Then download and run this hijacker remover from the bottom of this page cwshredder. Then close all program>go offline>run it.

And once you have them removed download this spyware preventer Spywareblaster Be sure to update these weekly.

If you were successful enable system restore and create a new restore point. Go to start>run>msconfig>ok>launch system restore>check the circle beside create a restore point>next>type new>next>home>click the x at the top right of the screen. Restart the computer.

If you still have problems follow the directions Here and post a HT log. Be sure to check the box "check this box to preserve your spacing" below under options so it is readable. ---jabuck
