Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4 doesn't recognize mp3's.

Recently, I had to completely restore my computer because it was being stupid and
would lock up before Windows would start. Anyways, all of that's over. I reinstalled
all of the original applications using my Application Recovery CD (I have a Sony
Vaio, btw) and the only program that doesn't seem to work is, well, the Adaptec Easy
CD Creator 4 which I use to burn CDs and such. Before the whole computer-lock-up/system
recovery deal, it worked fine but now when I open a folder to add some mp3s, I can't
even view the files from the program since it doesn't recognize them as .mp3.

.Wav files show up, though. So I figured that I'd try reinstalling the program, but
that's on the Application Recovery CD... Which won't work or something. It only worked
after I did the system recovery and driver recovery. So.... help regarding the program's
inability to recognize mp3's or even how to use the Application Recovery CD would
be much appreciated. =)

You should have three discs. The first two are the system recovery cds, the third is the app. recovery cd. Use the app. recovery cd to reinstall your program. I have done this in the past when a program has been corrupted for what ever reason. Hope this works.

Actually, I have two system recovery cds, one driver recovery cd, and two application
recovery cds, but that's not important.... Anyways, I already tried doing what you
said, but neither of the two application recovery cd's will start/load. I also tried
going to My Computer and I clicked on install.exe but that didn't start anything
either... Eep.

Go to the ROXIO.com web site and locate the updates files for the Adaptec (now ROXIO) ECDC 4 version that is on your computer. You need to first determine which level of the programs you have and find the right update(s) to get you to the 4.05 level.

Most likely you will need the "Update Easy CD Creator OEM (bundled) 4.0 or 4.01 to 4.05" First.

You may also need the "Update DirectCD for Windows 3.01 or later to 3.05" and if your DirectCD is version 2.5, you will also need the "Update DirectCD for Windows 2.5 to 3.01".

Download these install files and save them. Then use them to update your system. When you find the exact ones you need and that fix your system, burn a CD with those update programs on it and keep it with your restore CD's.

You might want to consider buying the latest and greatest version of ECDC 7 if you do a lot of music/MP3 burning.

None of that helped solve my problem, but thanks for the link to Roxio. I found a
solution here: http://www.roxio.com/en/support/kb/ecdc/eez000038.jhtml, but since
I didn't have the Fraunhofer codec, I downloaded the LAME ACM codec 3.96 at http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/11/1/2/11-1-2-70.shtml
instead since it said it was better than the other one... And now ECDC4 works. Hooray.
