Windows ME won't show login screen

Hi, got a machine using windows ME and I'm trying to get it on the network. Everything
is setup the way it's suppose to be (client of microsoft set to login to a windows
NT domain, dns, workgroup name, etc...). But the login screen doesn't pop up, so
I can't login to the network. I tried removing all the network devices and reconfig
the network all over again, got rid of the *.pwl files but to no use. Any suggestions?

Free MS Update CD
Hello Jim, you could try this. I've never tried it before so it would be useful to
know if it does work. Might just force the issue for you. The registry bit that is,
as you have done the rest already.

"This works to lock the casual user out of Windows. I use it on PCs at my workplace
running W95/98/ME and it works well."
Click on Start>Find>Files, key in *.pwl [.PWL for ME] and press enter. Now right
click on any and all .pwl files found and select delete for each one.
Now click on Start> Settings> Control Panel> Network. In the box labeled "Primary
Network Logon", change it to "Client for Microsoft Networks". Click on OK. Follow
the prompts to restart. When it restarts you will be prompted for a username & password.
Put in whatever you want to use for a UserID & Password & click on OK. You will still
be able to get around it until you do this next step & then you will have to have
a valid user id & password to access Windows in Normal mode.
Now do this to force a valid user id & password at startup, click on Start> Run,
type: regedit , and press enter.
Find this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Network\Logon
Now Right click in the Right pane and choose New>BinaryValue. Name it: MustBeValidated
Then left click on it and select: Modify. Give it a value of 01 00 00 00
Now restart the PC & you will see that nothing gets you by the logon box any longer,
except the valid user id & password.

Okay, when I deleted the .pwl files and set the logon to 'client for microsoft networks...'
I get the 'Enter Windows password' screen, not the logon to network screen. I did
try the putting the 'MustBeValidated' registery key, but that doesn't seem to want
to work. I'm gonna try taking off all the network drivers and re-install them again,
and see what happens.... Something's bound to work....
