search assisstant, is that the altva vista one? what does it tell you when you try to remove it?, and also have you tried to remove it in safe mode? (restarting and depressing F8 before windows restarts puts you in safe mode)

Joe Search Assisstants takes over your homepage and will not allow you to visit sites such as "hotmail" and "microsoft". When you try to remove it all it says is "uninstall failed" I need to know if there is a patch to solve the problem

many others have had that problem--this link is for 180searchassistant

did you try adaware or spybot?

pestpatrol says the program removes it but it's not freeware.

when you try to remove it by add/remove programs, make sure your browser is closed.

here's another site

do i take it that MS is your homepage as well?, another question, do you utilize yahoo toolbar? the reason i ask is that yahoo has a beta toolbar with anti-spy built in, powered by pestpatrol, my sis had that 180solutions and it removed it for her on the first scan, she had to turn her system restore off first than turn on once cleaned, ive provided a link to yahoo's beta w/anti-spy if you want to give it a try, it only works for IE 5.5 or higher, and not with any other type of browser like firefox (mozilla) or opera, you should think about utilizing one of those as a full time browser as IE has gotten so unsecure, they are more secure than IE, i use firefox and my malware/virus probs have all but disappeared by about 90-95%

You really have to be clear about which "search assistant" you are talking about. There is now also a "search assistant" that is built into IE if you use the MSN Search function that replaced the old IE Search. To check this, click the Search button. You should get a panel on the left. One of the options is Customize. This gives you an option to use Microsoft's MSN search assistant or to use just one search engine like MSN or Yahoo.
