Bootdisk locks up

I am trying to format a box with win me on it. I have tried two different boot disks to get started and both of them hang @ the same place (device name). I have tried to wait it out to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could you explain with more detail how far you are getting in the Windows ME startup diskette boot, and what options you have tried. Best guess is that you have a hardware problem effecting the CD-Rom drive and/or the disk drive. Can you boot if you select the option for no CD-Rom drive support?

Yes I can boot w/o cd support. It is a win98 startup disk and it hangs as soon as it starts. "This driver is provide by Oak Tech..........Device name mscd001" I left it sitting overnite like this and no change. The box has a cdrw and a dvd rom in it. They both look like factory installed drives. I am going to try disconnecting one and/or the other and see if I can get any further. Thanks for your help!!!

I have tried to boot with the startup disk after disconnecting each cd/dvd and after disconnecting the hdd. I get the same results. This system works fine with zero problems when I boot into WinME from the hdd. I have just realized that both drives have jumpers set to cs. I will try master and slave to see if that works.
