have heard a lot of good things about these two programs from this forum, so i have been using both to detect and remove spyware. i have been running one, waiting for it to finish, then running the other. can you please tell me if i can run both at the same time effectively so as to save time or should i wait until one is finished. thanks once again

As both programs tend to use almost 100% of the available processor bandwidth, there would be little or no advantage in running both at the same time from a processor point of view. It would also add a lot of task switching overhead.

Running both at the same time does cause some disk drive thrashing which will slow down the whole process. This will produce a noticeable slowdown. Same type of thing happens when you try to run a disk drive virus scan at the same time.

So you would be better off not to run them at the same time.

It also helps to run the Disk CleanUp utility first so that un-needed files are deleted first and not scanned. You can always start one and do some browsing the Internet or checking e-mail while it runs in the background.
