Depends. Do you have your Windows Update fixes installed? There was a fix for
System Restore, no longer being able to do a system restore after a specific date,
that was released several years ago. Without this fix installed any attempt now days
will result in long delays and failure after many hours of trying.
Even with the fix, it will hang if the system restore files are corrupted for
some reason, as can often happen when there are other errors.
Or if a virus/worm infection with a new version not being detected by your Anti-Virus
program (or no Anti-Virus program installed and updated) has caused the System Restore
area to be filled with tens of thousands of copies of the "infected" file, then it
could take a very long time to sort through the mess and complete a restore.
But if everything is up to-date and working OK, it should not take long at all
to do a quick System Restore from just a few days back.
Sure sounds like you have some sort of problem with it. When the system restore
files get messed up, your only real choice is to Disable System Restore to delete
to old corrupted files and then enable it again and try to fix what ever problem
you have some other way.
