i recently had my computer fixed because of a virus. when i got it back, i started getting the message "lexplore has in error in (unknown) location. please shut down. it would freeze up on me & i had to use ctrl - alt-delete to close. this would happen about every 8 minutes after being on the internet for an hour or more. i tried the suggestion in the control panel & it didn't help. my repairmen are telling me it's a problem with my hard drive. please help.

Unless you installed some good Anti-Virus software and have kept it up to date, done all of the Windows Updates and some other things to protect your system, it is most likely that you now have another virus or worm or Trojan or Spyware/ADware or Malware on your system.

The first thing is to determine if that lexpore error is for Iexplore or Lexplore as the lower case "l" looks a lot like the upper case "i" (I). If it is really an "L", then you have a Trojan (W32.HLLW.Sodabot) which normally spreads through P2P files and applications like KaZaA.

If you have unlimited funds and no time, take to someone who likes money and let them fix it for you, each time it comes back. Else you will have to learn to clean up your system yourself and protect it from the Internet.

For a good place to start, see Windows ME fixespage for information and links to programs that will help you clean up your system.

lexplore is part of the Sodabot virus you either need to use an online virus scan
like trends housecall or download AVG. Or take back to "repairmen" and I use that
term lighty because they seemingly don't know what their talking about....HD problem
good lord.
