Buddy, we can't do anything about your DSL issues. Contact Verizon again, until you
get someone that'll help troubleshoot the problem.

Only getting 800Mbit download is common with DSL. But you should be getting closer
to 1100Mbit download. It all depends on the test you are using, how busy the Internet
is, the quality of your phone line and how for it is from the CO of your ISP, and
of course how fast your machine is.
A slow or virus/spyware/ADware infected machine will be slower and test slower.
So you must make sure you do not have any type of infections and that all of Windows/IE
security patches are installed. And that your machine running OK. A Windows ME system
with less than 128MB or Memory (RAM) will be slower and not do as well on some speed
tests.
page
To test your TCP/IP settings and MTU settings which could be a minor problem,
go to BroadBandReporsts
and test your connection. It is not a speed test, but if you enter your correct speed
information (1500) and connection type, it will tell you what your MTU and RWIN settings
should be. They also have a program (DrTCP) that you can download that allows you
to adjust those settings.

"Only getting 800Mbit download is common with DSL."
I just got DSL through Verizon and get just below what they guarantee...Verizon's
speed guarantee: 1.5Mbps/128Kbps
He's getting almost half that. That's why I think he should contact them?

mine is 1.2 megabits per second
Storage 148.1 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 6.9 seconds....i subsribe to 1.5 as well. i have contacted my isp,
they sent out a tech because i was only getting 868 out of mine on a good day, they
checked the lines, provided free of charge a commuitcation only jack, and round phone
cord, replaced the modem, it bumped up to my current, it will speed up more when
they get done adding in more "service ports" around the area....then ill be getting
the 1.5 or possibly higher is what they told me....possibly 1.64 which i belive is
about T1 so calling them to service is something they should provide, and not just
blame the computer......

Need to know the complete specs of his computer. Example.. Two of my test machines:
#1-AMD550 running W2K with 384 meg of RAM can only download at 1.2 MBPS, while machine
#2-dual CPU-P3-800 with 786 meg of RAM can DL at 2.9 MBPS on a 3.0 connection. All
systems are clean under the test. Slower dual CPU machines always test better and
it isn't until the single CPU speed reaches 1.5 gig that I see a consistant speed
above 2.0.. One of the first questions Verizon is asking is how old your computer
is (to get an idea of it's specs) and what operating system you are running. Computer
specs do make a difference as service speeds increase as I demonstrate when I have
to go on-site. ;-)

Thanks, CK
I knew it made a dfference, just didn't realize how much. I should know better than
to question Jack by now anyway, especially about something I know very little
about! :-)
