so i used to have 2 gamepads, one in the back port and a "axispad" usb contoller in a front usb port. i change nothing but one day i turn on the computer to find out none of the game controllers operate anymore, i tried reinstalling, playing around with drivers...nothing works, the thing is these controllers worked for 2 years + and one day the comp decides i shouldn't be useing them apperently...could a virus do this? i'm totally confused, any help would be appricated

are they both usb? can you plug in another usb-device and does it function? if not might be that your usb-controller got disabled in your bios...is not hard to fix, but try the small test first ciao

yhea, tried a dvd cd-rw and a printer through the USB slots, worked fine. one gamepad used the back serial port (a propad 6), unfortunitly i don't have the drivers for it but it was working fine up untill whatever happened happened, the other gamepad is an "axispad" its through USB. i do have the drivers and installation CD for that one. funny thing is the other 2 times i have installed that one (once after getting it and once after a reformat) it installed perfect, no trouble at all, but now i get this message when i try to set it up in the control panel, controllers section "your gameport or gameport drivers are not configured properly, please consult the device manager" wich i did but found no conflicts and "device working properly" messages...i also don't recall doing anything that would effect the controllers...i was acually just useing them a week ago

strange... stupid but did yuo try the gamepads on another computer so we are very sure they still work? Never know that the cat has been biting on it, or... Did you update windows, depending on your settings windows also updates automatically... Should not affect your gamepad... Try to remove the hardware in your device manager (both devices), restart your computer. Then check for drivers for win xp for both devices and download them, this way we're sure we're using the latest drivers. Plug in the devices. Windows should detect both. Follow the installation procedure once windows asks for the drivers if not installed automatically and see what happens...

ok, found the drivers for the propad controller, insalled them, that one shows up now but it says "not connected"...now heres the wierd thing, when i restart if i go into the game controllers menu in control panel my USB controller shows up and is "connected" u can even go into properties to adjust it and it responds...thing is after a few minutes it dissapears and the ol "check device manager screen" error message pops up....its odd, yhea i will have to check the controllers on a diffrent comp tommarow, good suggestion though, thanks for the help so far
