I dont have a lot of memory so I opt not to have mcafee load all their stuff everytime I start. But for some reason even though in the preferences of the virus scan I tell it not to load anything, and I also removed all the start up things from the registry that I dont want every time I do that, next time I start up the comp i get this message that says i started in selective start up and all that mcafee stuff is back. so i go into msconfig and click on normal, uncheck all the mcafee stuff i dont want, go into the registry and remove it manually, then next time, bang it's back up, quite annoying cuz it sucks up my memory and i only have like 128, any way other than getting rid of mcafee to stop this? this never happened when i had 98 or 98se. thanks

When you manually start McAfee, it checks its installed set up. One of the things it does is check its startup entries. If it finds them missing, it puts them back in the Registry because it thinks a VIRUS (you) have tried to block it from starting.

If the preferences not to start it at startup do not work for you, (you would need to contact McAfee support about that issue), then make sure you are unchecking all of McAfee's entries in the MSCONFIG Startup list, and then do NOT remove them from the Registry. You can just leave your system in Selective Startup mode and have in not display that message during start up.
