WinME is a 16/32 Bit OS, unlike WinXP. It is the Office CD that is rejecting your
operating system, not vice versa. Look at the requirements on the Office XP packaging.
You don't have an option, other than swapping something.
It's cheaper to upgrade from ME to XP, if you have a stout enough PC to handle XP.
Otherwise, you have to sell your Office XP copy (because retailers seldom accept
software returns) and then buy an Office 2000 version.

You could keep Office XP until you get XP to run it with and use Open Office 2 for
the time being. Open Office is a free open source program sponsored by Sun Microsystems.
If you only need a word processor try Abiword.

Are you sure its actually Office XP and not Office 2003? XP will run just fine on
a WME box, I've got it on a laptop, no problems. 2003, however, does have to have
XP to work.
